ROCKING YOUR WORLD FRIDAY - 17TH OF 2026

 Morning all I hope I find you well, time to clock the positive moments and silver linings for it is time for 

Last Friday was a sad day as I had a funeral to attend, but having done one the week before I was feeling a little fragile so I made the decision to attend online, I struggle to see the emotions of individuals at such things and as I'm still grieving for my Mum it has been a tough couple of weeks, so why does it make a show on a positive post, I'm grateful that technology gave me the ability to attend in my own way. 

In the evening we had tickets to see a John Godber play called 'Teechers' which was a fabulous watch, it is a touring theatre company and I can highly recommend. 

I also photographed my first ever completed granny square in crochet, I can't tell you how proud I am that I managed to achieve this, I don't for one minute think it is without flaws but I never genuinely thought I'd manage to make one.  Hubby then asked what I was going to do with it, and with a stack of wool still to use I have set about making the centres of lots of new squares, I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but my hope is that I can get the pattern fixed in my mind so that I can do it again without having to watch the instructional video on constant rewind. 

Saturday was our 28th wedding anniversary and we decided to head to Brodsworth, their Easter trail was still dotted around the garden

This was hubby's gift to me that he had made himself, it is our Celtic knot from our wedding

The sun came out near the end of our visit

I loved the riot of colour that these caused

and seeing the ferns unfurling

I'm not sure what these are, they remind me of lily of the valley but I'm not sure that is what they are

The tree was still in blossom, after Storm Dave the blossom took something of a battering so it was nice to see one still in full bloom

The church is always stunning it reminds me of a typical English church 

On Sunday we had visitors, it looks like he took this himself but it was definitely me pressing the button

I managed to read this over the weekend, I have all 4 of them and have decided to read them in the season

I also concluded reading this, which was another good read

The centres of the granny squares continues to grow, but on my calculation last night I'm going to need 56 of them to make a throw like blanket.  

On Tuesday (I know a school night what was I thinking), we went to see 'The Sign of a Four' a radio show detailing the Sherlock Holmes story, it had Colin Baker (of Doctor Who fame) in it who is 82, we both really enjoyed it

Thursday and I was out in the garden when I spotted this 'orange tip' butterfly enjoying the aubretia and it still makes me wonder why are most butterfly names so very boring, I think they need renaming

 I was painting up the steps that we use in the garden on Thursday, it was lovely to be outside enjoying the sunshine and fresh air if I'm honest. Hubby was on the front of the house, weeding the drive and washing the cars, so we both had a productive time and then we had a couple of hours reading (and crocheting) on the deck. 

And that my lovely people is my lot for this week, I hope you've had a grand week too. 

ROCKING YOUR WORLD FRIDAY - 16TH OF 2024

 Morning all hopefully this is Friday and I'm posting on the right day

Well first up on the silver linings is that we managed a bar meal out as a belated birthday celebration for said daughter in law, we had to dash from one pub where we had booked (due to a very limited menu and singer who was far too loud), to another pub not far away who were able to provide us with a table. 

On Sunday morning, hubby dragged me out to YSP, knowing I genuinely needed some fresh air and a walk as I'd been sat for most of the week fighting with work, it was definitely good for the soul, before I returned to the year end documents. 

We found the bluebells were in full bloom

admired the horoscope heads created by Ai Wei Wei, as they are due to move on soon.

and embraced the spring colours and blooms, I adore cherry blossom

it is so utterly beautiful

so we had to grab a selfie. 

I also enjoyed how bright and white this blossom was

and how dark and deep this blossom was.

I sent a message to a cousin who had checked in to see how I was doing, which was really sweet, and conversed by email with a couple of volunteers I used to work with about the close of my work chapter, it proved good for my soul and for that I'm grateful. 

Hubby on supporting me dropping things off to close chapters and helping start to sort the upstairs rooms back to crafting and creating and away from working.  

Thursday was our wedding anniversary, 26 year's since we got married time really does fly, I shared a different photo this year, this one has my Mum and my step-Dad in the photo. 

Me and my sister and hubby, spent some time sorting through some of my Mum's craft items,  we actually did quite well given that we only spent just over 3 hours.  Now to try and absorb it into my craft space upstairs, thankfully because I've had a sort out I had an idea of where everything is which definitely helps, although I haven't finished yet. 

In the evening, we went for pre-theatre dining and off to watch Oliver, which was extremely good.

ROCKING YOUR WORLD FRIDAY (SATURDAY) - 16TH OF 2023

 Afternoon all I'm mighty late - many apologies

Last Friday hubby was on a knife and cooking course linked with the foodbank and work, so I was home alone and so I spent the day sorting the bedrooms out.  We have just completed bedroom 4 of 4 so this week has been a 'getting sorted' week if I'm honest (which is why I am sooooooooo late).

Friday night and we toddled off to the City Hall in Sheffield to see Russell Howard, he was mighty funny and said 22 year old and his fiancee came too which made for a lovely night out.  

Monday night I had a bit of a funny do, we were on family chat and my vision in my right eye went strange and I had a shadow in the middle of my vision preventing me from being able to see properly and then as it came it went and (touch wood) I haven't had any more episodes since and an urgent opticians appointment on Thursday showed nothing to worry about, so glad for that. 

Tuesday was our silver wedding anniversary and we headed to a local pub for a meal, we had some lovely food, this was mine (and hubbies is in the background), the pub was within walking distance so we walked there and back which was good.

Thursday night we were out with my Mum at pre-theatre dining and then to see the musical Me and My Girl.  Both were lovely, this was my dessert, custard tart, rhubarb sorbet and poached rhubarb, genuinely lovely food. 

We've spent days working and evenings sorting rooms, so not much to share.  Enjoyed catching up with my mum on thursday, she was 'at her best' as it was the day before her next chemo so she'll be going downhill for a week or two now, it is so hard to see loved ones genuinely struggling like this if I'm honest, but I'm grateful for all the time we have together.

MONDAY - HELLO, GAINSBOROUGH, COUCHING AND HERE AND NOW

Good morning, lovely people, it's Monday already sigh, I'm sure the weekends work on a fast forward button. 

However, on a positive note, had a fabulous weekend, really enjoyed spending time with hubby and said 15 year old.  We've got a busy week ahead as well.  

So first up a layout I did documenting our wedding anniversary last year, I did a double page scrapbook layout to compare where we were when we got married versus where we were last year, the photo is of hubby reading the pages. 

The heart photo is his gift to me from him, it is an ametrine heart and is beautiful, he recently bought me a chain so that I can to wear it.  The layout isn't my normal style, but I had a couple of quirky frame lefts over from a shape I'd cut so decided to give them a whirl. 

The kit is a counterfeit kit I put together this month, but haven't properly documented - but it doesn't really matter as I got layouts done which is the main thing!

Another one from Gainsborough Hall and yes Gina you really should go it is a fabulous day out, much larger than we imagined and fairly easy to find once in Gainsborough, we just went left when we crossed over the bridge and found a car park turned around and could spot the hall from there.  It's also good if the weather isn't up to much because it's obviously all inside and it's got a lovely coffee shop at the end!  The photo is me and said 15 year old in the great hall. 

And another one from Gainsborough, they have replicated a piece of Henry VIII clothing in one of the displays which has detailed goldwork on it.  They've then replicated the embroidery piece from the clothing and put it on a frame, so you can see the detail (both front and back).  As said 15 year old is doing textile arts this was really interesting, but more amazingly is actually hand couching - a technique said 15 year old had recently learnt to do using a sewing machine!  We were both really impressed with the detail and also the fact that the method has been around for such a long time! 

Another bright and happy set of photos.  This time it's from Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the iron tree outside the chapel and then a piece of Henry Moore sculpture that was there last year.  I love Yorkshire Sculpture Park (as regular readers will known)!
