ROCKING YOUR WORLD FRIDAY - 47TH OF 2016

Morning lovely people, tis Friday - time to find those silver linings

Last Friday was a lovely day - spent with my Mum, we were Christmas shopping together and managed to traverse a fair few shops to make some headway on the shopping list, which was brilliant!  We even managed to grab a cuppa on our way around, loving the tiny Christmas tree biscuits in Marks cafe.

Unfortunately I've not been a hundred percent this week, so unusually for us we didn't have any specific plans, it was actually quite fun to wander through the weekend without a plan of what we had to do or where we needed to be etc!

Said 16 year old has been working on a piece of textile art recently and I've been given permission to finally share the piece now that it's been seen at school.

Here is the piece, based on a topic of growth and decay

Up close you can see the vintage flowers and the free motion embroidered leaves.

The three dimensional rib cage made with Powertex

The batique arms with palms face up!

And the abdominal muscles using some ice dyed fabric!  Hasn't he done awesome!

and just to get the piece into perspective here is said almost 6 foot tall 16 year old with his tiny piece of textile art!

Oh nearly forgot, we went to a surprise joint 60th birthday party on Saturday night and had a lovely time, we really enjoyed it, so much so said 16 year old didn't want to come away!

The week has been a busy one, despite not being a hundred percent.  Monday morning I was parental taxi so said 16 year old could go to a careers fair and Wednesday he had an interview at college about a BTEC course in Art and Design, he had to take his current art books and other art he has made to the interview, he was gone about half an hour and came back very enthused and was grinning from ear to ear because he'd been offered a place on the course, subject to getting certain grades in certain subjects.  This has given him even more reason to work hard for those grades!

I in the meantime sat in the supermarket cafe having a cuppa!

Other positives are clicking away and getting through the Christmas list, our lovely new room and our lovely warm fire - nothing finer!

I hope you've had a great week, if you fancy joining in then pop a post together, pop back and link up so we can come and visit!

ART DOLL

Last summer holiday said 15 year old brought home all the components parts for his art doll that he'd been working on at school.  He simply had to assemble the same, he worked solidly to get it completed.

I was so impressed with his work ethic that I took photos of him as he proceeded with the task from the beginnings, to the in the middle to the finished doll.  I love the funky hair and the couched face!

ROCKING YOUR WORLD 12TH OF 2016

Good morning lovely people, tis Friday which means it's time for

Apologies for the delay in posting this morning, I've been a little busy but without further ado, here are the positives, the silver linings and the things that made my world a better place this week!

Seeing these amazing tulips at my Mum's house, I haven't seen any before that have opened up so fully and created such an amazing display - aren't they gorgeous!

Then our morning walk, now normally this is what we do at 6am and at the moment that varies between sunrise and semi darkness depending on clouds, but last weekend, we did the walk but during the day time.

We go past this little stream each day (in fact said 15 year old walks this way on his way back from the school bus) and depending on the rain fall it can go from barely a trickle to almost not being able to see the fall of the water and it makes an awesome noise!

Lovely food, sometimes you have to think outside of the box and we've been doing that over the last few weeks, this was lunch last weekend, curried chicken and mango salad, it was lovely!

Crafting and watching rugby - multi tasking my style!

The Six Nations created a few more amazing matches last weekend that we enjoyed watching!

Picking up this book last Friday to get a selection of new recipes, I'm still in reading mode and haven't tried anything yet but it looks like there is plenty to go at as it were!

Sunday saw us all taking part in a Powertex taster workshop, we had a brilliant time creating whilst we were there.  Steph was awesome and really helped talk about what we could do going forward and helping give said 15 year old a few ideas with regards to his current piece of art textile.

And here are the finished pieces again at home

Mine on the left, hubbies in the middle and said 15 year old's on the right hand side.

He also had a play with collage last weekend for his course book and created this in the style of Travis Bedel.

The beginning of the working week arrived far too quickly but we were treated to a glorious sunrise on one of the days.

Then a selfie of my Mum and my niece when they went for a wander to the nearest shopping centre!

The rest of the week has included, a lovely catch up on messenger with my Aunty Bernie, it has been lovely to chat recently - the joys of modern technology as it were!

Having 4 really good days at work although Thursday turned into one of epic length, I did achieve what I set out to do.

Hubby getting a 'well done' from the Doctor, he is almost 2 stone lighter than 10 weeks ago, is in a healthy BMI and getting blood pressure readings regarded as normal - can't say finer than that now can you!

Friday arriving and making plans for the weekend, after our 6am walk I've set too and cleaned the house from top to bottom so now I can head out for a few hours before hubby and said 15 year old are home.

I hope your week has been positive, if you fancy joining in pop a blog post together, pop back, link up and we shall come and visit!

ROCKING YOUR WORLD FRIDAY - 30TH OF 2015

Yes we have officially reached the 30th Friday of 2015, the year has fair raced along at a good old pace up to now.  But it's time to reflect on the week, take a step back and find those silver linings

First up, it was my niece's 16th birthday and we spent the day at Mablethorpe, hiring a beach hut and enjoying good company, a close friend of hers came along as well and it was lovely to spent time with everyone!

Here she is fighting with balloons

We even ventured into the sea, well the kids did, I just stood squealing as I don't like sand - no really I don't, can't even touch sandpaper!

Would have been a perfect picture if it hadn't been photobombed by the bloke - hey ho!

A bit of cloud watching - found a mouse!

Fish and chips for lunch, deck chairs, beach huts, seaside!

An obligatory water fight

A ride in a peddle boat

And some crazy golf, although I was reliable informed that it should have had windmills

And finally a go on the dodgems

It was fab to see them enjoying it so much!

There was even a cake, courtesy of my Mum!

Other positives, are hubby sorting tea out when I get home late, some lovely meals made from scratch.

Said 14 year old embracing the holiday checklist and getting on with the tasks in hand.  Most impressed with him.

Then thursday having a day off and spending time with him, he missed his last art textile lesson before he broke up from school due to illness.  So he brought home his art doll to complete at home and here he is making a start on the same, he spent all afternoon, pinning, stitching and filling the same

Until it was completed, combining loads of different techniques

And this is the back - I love the hair

It has woven mocasin type boots

Fabric painted arms

Batik printed body

Needle felted eyes and lips

Additional couching on the face

We spent a lovely afternoon together, chatting and creating and he is really pleased to have finished it and with the finished item itself!

I've also enjoyed myself this week, making mini books using the Minnie Mouse Do-crafts papers that I picked up, a friend at work asked if I could make a book for her which is a gift for a relative and when she mentioned she loves Minnie Mouse it was what can only be called a win win for me, because up until then I hadn't had an excuse to buy any of the range, I really enjoyed creating with these bright and vibrant papers!

And that my lovely people is the week in a snap shop, I hope you've had a great week, with lots of silver linings, if you fancy joining in then pop a post together, pop back, link up and we shall come and visit!
