SUMMER OF COLOUR - WEEK 2 (AND SOME CLOSE UPS OF WEEK 1)

Well it has to be said that I am loving this years Summer of Colour challenge, week one was great fun, so I was waiting with great anticipation for this weeks colour scheme.

So gelli plate at the ready I gelli printed the abstract backgrounds and then the decision on the creature for this weeks cards.  Initially said 14 year old said hedgehog - but then I didn't fancy doing brown, then he said koala bear, mmmm grey - no not sure on that one either.  Then he said octopus!  Well there was a challenge - I had great fun creating these.  They are A5 in size, so your question is what am I going to do with them?  Well some will make it onto birthday cards, some will become abandoned art, some possibly mail art to friends and family and finally I will be sending a selection to Sarah for Free Art Friday in Swindon!

So the question is which is your favourite?  And can you spot the deliberate mistake?

SUMMER OF COLOUR CHALLENGE - WEEK 5

Crikey I didn't think I'd get this one finished if I'm honest as I was away for a few days last week, but it just shows you when you put your mind to it you can achieve anything (plus I hate only doing half a challenge, so I had to get it done).  So without further ado this is this weeks rendition

Isn't it funny how you see a colour scheme and wonder if it will work and low and behold find that it does!  Gelli plate fun as always, add to it some red and blue cardstock, photos, memories and a few embellishments and I was set.

Said hubby and said 13 year old talking about how 'easy' this was (then proceeding to take 20 minutes to achieve it).

Then sieving through the 'archaeology' at the dig!

Walking above the Viking Street at Yorvik museum

Having a chat with the barber surgeon at Barley Hall

And enjoying the gorgeous hall itself

And finally the 'Viking' creating coins in Yorvik, together with his Viking Health and Safety perspex piece in front of him!

Then A4 sheets of gelli printing I pulled the prints first and then wondered what to paint - last week was owls - this week I've gone for fish!

And here they all are!

I wonder what colours we will get for the final week - sob!

SUMMER OF COLOUR CHALLENGE - WEEK 4

I can't believe we are on week 4 already - boo hiss!!!! Anyway, this weeks colours were apple green, a mid pink and a splash, splodge or smudge of dark green.  Gelli plate at the ready - I set too with my papers, creating a variety of A4 pieces (which were then cut to A5 and turned into mail art/art pieces) and the 12 x 12 were used to create layouts.  It's fun sometimes to have a series of layouts all using the same colour scheme (and gelli plating session).

First up the mail art/art.  Usually I send these through the year as mail art, but this year Sarah has a Free Art Friday commencing in Swindon and she put a call out for help, so most of these have been parcelled up to send to her (yes Sarah I may finally get around to sending the promised pieces), mind you some of the other art she's received is far more arty than mine.  The image is hand painted and should be an owl, but said 13 year old commented he liked my aliens - so they can be either I suppose.  Although they were supposed to be owls - whoops!

Then the layouts, it's always a challenge using the papers to create layouts that look different, but I think I managed it.  First up me and said 13 year old trying very hard not to look conspicuous whilst trying to find a geo-cache in a rather busy area of York city walls!

Then Jack and Jill the Shetland ponies in the field next to us when we were on holiday recently!

Hexagons for the next one, showing a Victor Bomber, for a change a plane hubby hadn't seen

Then plane artwork - I love seeing all the different designs.

Me and hubby in a shot taken by said 13 year old off the top of Clifford's Tower.

More Yorkshire Air Museum photos, this time hubby and said 13 year old with one of those fold up planes - as you do!

So that's this weeks installment!  Much fun was had wonder what colour challenge we will have for week 5.

SUMMER OF COLOUR WEEK 6 - Sage and Sepia

Good morning one and all, it is a little cooler this morning in Yorkshire but is forecast to turn even warmer this week and it's been warm enough in our office as it was!

Anyway we draw to a close the Summer of Colour challenge on week 6 with Sage and Sepia, a colour combination that I voted for - but crikey I struggled. I'm going to apologise in advance my Sage ended up slightly more vibrant and my sepia got drowned out with the sage - but I promise I did start with two colours!

First up a layout - gelli print at the ready again!  The now defunct sidings at Jackfield near Ironbridge (I tried to use sepia in my photos when it wasn't so clear in my gelli-plating)!
Carvings at Stokesay castle - they amused me quite a lot - couldn't help it - they were on a fire place!
Finally inside the barn we stopped in, this was the main living area (apologies this is slightly blurry, I thought it was my eyes when I took it apparently not)
Then cards from the project, these were simple gelli plates, offcuts of the cardstock and paper that was left over and simple birthday wishes, I also used peeled paint distress ink with my new Bo Bunny stamps to add to the cards.  Now remember I don't ever and have never professed to be a card maker, there are those that can and those like me that use scrapping offcuts up - just saying!

I liked this one because of the tree!

I love this hexagon stamp - it's so versatile!

Then mail art, not completed fully but getting there

So there we have it, colour of summer drawn to a close, boo hoo - I've loved it though, a massive thank you to Kristin on Twinkle Twinkle for hosting this, it really makes you work outside the box which I adore.  It gives me the chance to work with colours I wouldn't normally work with, it gets me to create layouts without photos (rather than working from photos to layouts which is my normal way around things).

I hope you've enjoyed seeing my creations over the last six weeks, I've loved seeing yours and hope to visit lots more SOC posts over the summer when I have a little more time!  And finally Natasha, you've ordered a gelli plate - you are going to love it, although once Victoria gets a chance to have a go - you might not get much time on it - just warning you!
