ROCKING YOUR WORLD FRIDAY - 5TH OF 2025

Good afternoon, apologies for my tardiness, Friday appeared as if by magic so I was caught on the hop if I'm honest, time to look back at the last seven days and clock the positive moments and silver linings as it is time for 

So last Thursday afternoon our daughter in law came to visit and brought our grandson which was brilliant, hubby got this photo of me sneaking a cuddle

and in the evening, me and hubby went to the local college for a Burns' night tasting menu event.  We had a lovely evening together and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful food cooked by the students. 

Canapes were smoked haddock and chive fishcakes, whipped sheep's cheese and heather honey gougere and black pudding croquette which were all beautiful 

The cock-a-leekie soup, the brown lump is a prune and I genuinely wouldn't have thought it would work but it did. 

Then potted brown trout with dill butter a fennel and caper salad and oatcakes

Main was lump of lamb with pureed neeps and tattie terrine with Haggis bon bons and kale with cherry jus

dessert orange and white chocolate bread and butter pudding on a whisky sauce which was another fabulous course and much bigger than expected

and we finished with Scottish tablet which we'll be honest didn't feel like they cooked it long enough, it hadn't quite got the fudge look that I'm used to

but it was tasty nonetheless, I got a photo of my lovely date (you can see the size of the pudding on the plate now, the largest course by far, but with 6 courses the last thing you want is a large course)

and he got a photo of me 

We've kept our new walking routine up all month which I'm really pleased with, we walk past a brook which is barely a trickle normally but it has been much fuller recently with all the rain we've had. 

I've also been enjoying a cacao with hot milk and a smidge of honey for bed, it has genuinely helped me sleep recently which I'm really grateful for. 

I've had a really busy work week and ended up working the entire week from home to try and sort some spreadsheets I've been working on, one of the evenings, I came down to this after I'd finished work a butterbean and chorizo stew with homemade wholemeal bread, it was lovely. 

On Wednesday I glanced out of the back bedroom window and initially was confused as there seemed to be an awful lot of people with their boilers running, then I realised it wasn't boiler steam, but the sun warming the frost on the fences which was evaporating, it genuinely made me smile.

And I also received this photo this week when I was tearing my hair out trying to get the spreadsheet sorted and well all seemed at one and calm with the world again. 

Genuinely the cutest smile you ever did see and they are coming in thick and fast now.

 Good morning tis Friday again time to clock the positive, silver linings and glimmers over the last week time for  

So last Thursday night we went to the local college restaurant for a Burns night themed evening. 

It was an excuse to get dressed up which was nice, hubby looked lovely

and photo of me, I look tired, but then I was so we will take that. 

This was the appetiser, we were half way through eating it when we remembered to photograph it - whoops

Then Cullen Skink soup - a smoked haddock soup served in a tea cup

black pudding Scotch egg

Balmoral pork loin with haggis stuffing, clapshot potatoes and skirlie kale with a whiskey cream reduction

Caledonian cream - with clementine, candied peel and orange liquer

Tunnock's teacake a shortbread biscuit, with whipped marshmallow, chocolate crisp and cranachan raspberries. 

I think the students did amazing and they all came out so we could give them a round of applause. 

Saturday and I'd arrange for my d-i-law and sister to come over for an art journal afternoon, unfortunately we were far too busy nattering to take photos of anything, but we had a splendid afternoon. 

Then said 24 year old came over and we all had tea together, just a chilli, cheese and jacket potatoes and then some lemon muffins filled with homemade lemon curd and double chocolate muffins for dessert, it was lovely.

Then we headed into town for the light festival known as 'otherham' 

There were lights on the Town hall building and a story running to engage with 

characters walking past the windows including a dinosaur that had us giggling

It really was fabulous

Then we walked down to the Cinema of Future Films, all the story ideas had come from young people engaging with Grimm and Co a local charity hellbent on helping young people embrace literacy - an amazing charity! 

Then the 'otherham' Chronicle, the digital lights were brilliant and each one had a story

I loved the howling wolf

We saw these outside the minster

then Bright Idea Mining Company 

before we headed for the front of the minster for the ministry of weather and goodwill

I took a selfie as it was such an amazing night

Then over to forge island, this light display was movement activated both sound and light

Back up to the minster we came across some of the lanterns the local schools had made

and saw some of the lights 

then saw the deers walking around now they had people inside of them

then we walked up to Grimm and Co, which is the place we did the cake decorating class before Christmas only me and hubby had been before, but everyone loved it.

I love their menu the descriptions are just amazing - essence of Fee fi fo and fum - genius!

The building is an old church and they've really used the beautiful architecture to its fullest

some of the original items are still visible, the organ, the pulpit and even the baptismal font. 

We had such fun wandering their shop, I treated us all to a new tote bag, mine says "It's Grimm up North" and this was it's tag, as you can see it is made from organic ogre chest hair and is suitable for heave ho'ing although does remind you not to store curses or hexes in it. 

Everyone had such a wonderful evening, in fact my whole afternoon brought me utter joy, it was like having my positivity cup filled to the brim it genuinely made me smile from ear to ear. 

Sunday and we had a mooch to YSP, they've installed this Marc Quinn piece from another part of the park and rumour has it (well their Instagram feed has it) that there will be some more of his work in the park this summer. 

we walked over the bridge and past the well that was created at the quarry entrance many years ago

the ground under foot was frozen and in areas where the water sat on the surface it was treacherous

We wandered down to the Jaume Plensa head

and spied some snowdrops on our travels. 

It was a lovely walk that we both enjoyed before the start of my working week. 

Thankfully the working week flew by and I got plenty done which is always a positive. 

Thursday me and hubby went in search of a few things we needed from the local shopping centre, I needed a new make up brush and got a bargain set which was nice, we also met up with my sister and had a coffee with her at Starbucks it is always a blessing to spend time with her. 

Then me and hubby came home and I had a bit of a sort of a couple of cupboards, nothing major they just needed a fettle, but the kitchen feels better for it, did a wash load and put that in the room with the dehumidifier and then had a fettle around, a productive day and hubby started some pizza dough with his sour dough starter.
